Salary Question

I wanted to inquire about a matter related to our compensation. The county auditor has informed me that my salary for the current term is prorated due to the timing of my official start date. As a result, I appear to be leaving a balance of $684.16 in my budget's salary line for the current year.

To confirm, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue with their salaries being prorated around the time of election or new term starts? I would appreciate any clarification on this matter. This is my second term so I didn’t realize that this was how it was done. I just wanted to confirm that it is correct.

I began my first term in September and my pay is the same as my predecessor's. The salary is the salary. I don't know what they would be prorating, especially since you will have spent 365 days as the Treasurer.

Yes, proration based on days is normal. If you were the Treasurer and are still the Treasurer, I don't see what proration needed to happen in the middle of the year. Your salary should not have changed. Most will adjust the final pay for the year to be sure you are paid to the penny; this can vary on timing. You may see a change for any year that there are 27 instead of 26 pays. This is the case for 2026 for me - we have 27 pays - so my pay per period will be going down. I like this option better than only getting 26 pays and skipping a pay period.

I agree with Char Lee's response. Much like Char stated, the entire salary has to be expended for the year regardless of who the treasurer is - so that remainder should go on your final pay.
